Gardaí in Co Clare investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered early yesterday on a roadway in the east of the county have ruled out foul play, following earlier fears that the man was victim of a hit-and-run driver.
The remains of the 42-year-old man, named locally as Seán Tobin, were found next to his bicycle by a passing motorist on the Scarriff Road, a short distance from the village of Feakle at around 2.40am yesterday.
Gardaí were called and they quickly sealed off the scene. A tent was erected around the body as members of the divisional crime scene investigation unit carried out a detailed technical examination of the area.
A section of the road was closed for sometime yesterday and was only reopened when gardaí became satisfied the area was not a crime scene.
Gardaí believe the man died after falling from his bike while making his way home after a night out.
It is believed that he had been drinking earlier in a local pub and only travelled about one-quarter of mile along the road home when the tragedy occurred.
