Gardai investigating a hit-and-run accident in north Co Dublin were last night believed to be following a definite line of inquiry.

The accident resulted in the death of a pedestrian close to his home early yesterday.

The victim was named as Mr Martin Andrews (42), from Whitestown, Rush, Co Dublin.

It is understood he was struck by a car as he walked along a roadway in Whites town at 1.15 a.m.

Local gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man died instantly early yesterday when the car he was driving hit a wall.

The accident occurred on Avoca Avenue in Blackrock at 1.05 a.m.

The man was named as Mr Paul Haugh, from Mount Merrion Avenue.
