A man (73) died while swimming in the sea at Portmarnock, Co Dublin this evening.
The alarm was raised by the man's family shortly after 4pm.
The beach life guards at Portmarnock contacted the Coast Guard and twenty volunteers from the Howth Coast Guard coastal search unit and the Howth inshore and all-weather lifeboats were sent to the scene.
The Portmarnock and Malahide lifeguards also launched their boats while gardai from Malahide searched the shoreline.
The man's body was recovered by Howth Coast Guard near rocks on the north part of Portmarnock beach at about 5.30pm.
