Man facing extradition gets bail

A man facing extradition to Britain for 36 alleged rapes and sexual assaults has been granted bail by the High Court

A man facing extradition to Britain for 36 alleged rapes and sexual assaults has been granted bail by the High Court. The 30-year-old man was convicted by Nenagh Circuit Court last week of sexually assaulting two boys, aged nine and 11, at his Waterford home. He was freed so he could receive treatment but when he left court he was immediately arrested on extradition warrants.

He appeared in Dublin District Court yesterday and was remanded for a week pending the taking up of High Court bail. His solicitor said bail had been granted by the High Court but the order was unlikely to be available for at least another day.

Judge William Early remanded him with consent to High Court bail to August 8th. He also reserved a date in the new year for the hearing of the extradition proceedings.

The charges against him in Britain allege that he abused boys and girls in Essex and west Sussex between 1995 an 1998.
