A man (23) is to appear before a special sitting of Kilrush District Court at 10.30 tomorrow morning, in connection with the death of a local woman in the town last night.
The body of 23 year-old Anne Walsh was found partially-clothed in Toler Street, behind the church in Kilrush at around 11pm last night.
A man, who was known to the victim, was arrested by gardaí close to the scene and is being held under Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.
A full postmortem is expected to be carried out by the deputy State pathologist Dr Michael Curtis in Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick tonight. It is believed that Ms Walsh was strangled.
Superintendent Joe McKeown, who is leading the murder investigation, earlier appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"If they heard anything last night between 10pm and 11pm, contact Kilrush Garda Station," he said.
The scene at the rear of the church is still preserved by forensic examination.
