A man is due to appear before Foyle Magistrates Court in Derry today in connection with an incident earlier this week in which two people were abducted and assaulted.
The man, who is in his 40s, is charged with two counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of grevious bodily harm with intent and two counts of possession of a firearm with criminal intent.
The PSNI confirmed this morning that the charges relate to an incident in the High Park area of the Creggan where a man (42) was found shot and beaten around 5am on Tuesday.
He had been shot in the lower part of each leg. A woman (38) who was discovered with him had also been assaulted.
Thecouple, who are both thought to be from Northern Ireland, are believedto have been abducted from their home in Mullingar town on Mondayevening.
Asa result of information from the PSNI, gardaí at Mullingar sealed off ahouse in the area for examination.
A man in his 50s, who was arrested on Tuesday, has since been released without charge while another man in his 50s is assisting police with their inquiries.
