A 47-year-old man is due before Waterford District Court this afternoon charged in relation to the death of a man in the city earlier this week.
Gardaí in Waterford are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of Joe O’Brien (60) at an apartment on Monday evening.
A postmortem was carried out on Mr O’Brien’s body by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis yesterday after the remains were removed from the area where he died, an apartment block off William Street.
The postmortem showed Mr O'Brien died from head injuries.
The deceased lived nearby to the apartment block, at a social housing scheme in Spring Garden Alley.
It is believed Mr O’Brien visited the ground floor apartment at the Scotch Marsh House development off Scotch Quay and William Street on Monday night.
A 999 call was made to Waterford Garda station at about 9.50pm, when a caller said an incident had occurred in the apartment.
