Man found dead in Kilkenny river is named

The man whose body was found in a river in Kilkenny city yesterday evening has been named.

The man whose body was found in a river in Kilkenny city yesterday evening has been named.

He was Alan Boyce (21), from Meelick, Co Clare.

The results of a postmortem examination show Mr Boyce, whose body was recovered from the River Breagagh, died as the result of injuries consistent with an accident.

Mr Boyce was a Private in the Army serving with the 12th Infantry Battalion in Kickham Barracks, Clonmel.

The Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea and Defence Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Dermot Earley offered their "deepest condolences" to Mr Boyce's family.

He will be buried with full military honours.
