A man has been found guilty by a jury of withholding information during a Garda investigation into the killing of Oughterard publican and teacher John Kenny in his pub last year.

The jury took just over three hours at Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday to find Florin Fitzpatrick(38), a Romanian national, guilty of withholding information, which might have been of assistance in the apprehension of people involved in Mr Kenny’s death on September 25th, 2011 at his pub in Oughterard.

Family and friends of the deceased cheered and clapped when the unanimous guilty verdict was returned by the jury.

During the trial evidence was heard that Fitzpatrick had tried to scupper the Garda investigation into Mr Kenny’s death by making false statements in the days immediately after Mr Kenny was discovered.Sentence will be handed down on December 19th.
