A post-mortem was carried out by the Chief State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, on the body of a man found hanging in a cell in Roxboro Garda station, Limerick, on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old, who had been arrested for a breach of the Public Order Act, was named as Mr Derek Cooper, of O'Malley Park, Southill.

A Garda spokesman said the man was placed in a cell at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday and was checked on a number of occasions before being found in a collapsed state at 10.35 p.m. Attempts were made to resuscitate him.

He was brought to Limerick Regional Hospital and was pronounced dead at 11.15 p.m.
