A 42 year old Louth man has been found not guilty by direction of a judge of having sexual intercourse with a mentally impaired woman in 1995.
The decision by Judge Kieran O'Connor yesterday came after two days of legal argument last week in the absence of the jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The defendant was discharged. The legal argument started at the beginning of the trial last Thursday and no evidence was heard by the jury.
The man had pleaded not guilty to having sexual intercourse with the 40 year old mentally impaired woman on July 19th, 1995. He also denied a second charge of sexually assaulting the woman on the same date.
