A man was today sentenced to 13 years in prison for his part in a shooting of Dublin publican Charlie Chawke.

Larry Cummins (56), of Mellowes Road, Finglas, was found guilty in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court last month of five charges relating to a botched armed robbery on Mr Chawke's pub, the Goat Grill, in Goatstown.

Mr Chawke lost his right leg after being shot during the attempted raid in October 2003.

Judge Frank O'Donnell sentenced Mr Cummins to 15 years in prison with the last two years suspended.

The judge said any person who goes out to commit a robbery armed can expect little sympathy from the courts.

He said he accepted Mr Cummins did not actually pull the trigger and remained in the car as the raid was carried out.

Mr O'Donnell said: "Mr Chawke will carry with him for the rest of his life a permanent reminder of what transpired that day."
