A man (33) has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner's forner boyfriend in Drogheda last year.

A man (33) has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner's forner boyfriend in Drogheda last year.

David O'Brien, originally from Limerick, pleaded guilty to the murder of Martin Murray between the 9th and the 10th of August, 2004, at the Central Criminal Court in Drogheda.

The court heard that O'Brien had attacked Murray after finding him in his apartment with his girlfriend.

O'Brien told gardaí that he had stabbed Murray with a knife that had broken off in his shoulder before Murray fell down some stairs.

The victim suffered eight Stanley knife stab wounds, the most serious of which were to the throat.

Mr Justice Paul Carney sentenced him to mandatory life imprisonment, which he backdated to that date.
