A search on the River Shannon in Co Roscommon for a 20-year-old man who was seen falling from a pleasure craft in the early hours of the morning was due to be called off this evening.
It is believed the man may have been at a Christmas party on the vessel when the incident happened at 1am. Gardaí said "a number of witnesses saw the 20 year old man go into the water".
Local civilian water units and gardaí began searching for the man in the Rinnacureen area, which is about one mile outside Carrick-on-Shannon. However, a Garda spokesman said it would be suspended as darkness fell.
