A 25-year-old man has been found guilty on two counts of raping a then 13-year-old girl in a flat in a Co Cork town five years ago.

The man, then aged 21, denied raping the girl by having sexual intercourse with her without her consent and by orally raping her.

But the jury at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork found the man guilty on both counts today following over five hours of deliberation over two days.

The teenager - now aged 18 - had said she had been out with older friends drinking in the flat when she went to the toilet only to discover there was no lock on the door.

She said the accused, who was part of the group, came into the toilet and pushed her against the door and raped her against the door despite pleading with him to stop. She said the accused then orally raped her before later offering to perform oral sex on her.

Mr Justice Paul Carney has requested the preparation of a victim impact statement and remanded the accused in custody for sentence in Dublin on February 25th.
