A 25-year-old man was arrested today after a three-hour stand-off following a stabbing incident in Co Donegal.

A 25-year-old man was arrested today after a three-hour stand-off following a stabbing incident in Co Donegal.

A Garda spokesman said officers were called to a house in Fahan near Letterkenny at around 3.45am. One man received minor injuries understood to have been inflicted by a knife during an altercation in the house.

The injured man managed to leave the house as gardaí arrived at the scene.

The spokesman said negotiations then took place between officers and a man who remained in the house.

"At 7.05am approximately a public order team entered the house and arrested a 25-year old man," he said.

"He is now detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. A knife was recovered at the scene.

"The house remains sealed off for a technical examination this morning."
