A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Australia on the request of detectives investigating the murder of a couple in south Armagh.

Thomas O’Hare (33), and his girlfriend Lisa McClatchey (21), died after they were attacked by a gang of up to six men at their home at Tassagh, near Newtownhamilton, in November 2006.

The couple were assaulted with hammers before petrol was poured over them and they were set alight.

The arrested man, who is from Armagh, was detained by Australian police following a request by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Serious Crime Branch.
