A Limerick man was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Limerick District Court yesterday arising out of a seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of £200,000.

The haul, one of a number of drug seizures made on Tuesday in the St Mary's Park area of the city, amounted to £1.3 million.

Mr Christy Keane (40), of Singland Gardens, Ballysimon, Limerick, is charged that on August 21st, 2001, at waste ground at the rear of 54 St Munchin's Street, St Mary's Park, he was in possession of cannabis resin for sale or supply in contravention of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1988 and 1993, and at the same time while the drugs were in his possession, the market value amounted to £10,000 or more contrary to Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.

He was remanded in custody for a week until August 29th.
