A Dublin businessman arrested on 14 extradition warrants from the UK early yesterday is to appear before the District Court today, a High Court judge ruled last night. Ms Justice Laffoy adjourned an application for bail by Mr Peter Bolger, of Glendown Lawn, Templogue. The application will be heard in the High Court.

Mr Bolger was arrested at his home and brought before Dublin District Court on warrants issued by the London Metropolitan Police. Before the court could deal with the case an application for an inquiry into the legality of his detention was made in the High Court, which directed that an inquiry be held, and the matter came before Ms Justice Laffoy last night. She adjourned a bail application to this morning and directed that Mr Bolger be brought before the District Court.

In an affidavit, Ms Pauline Bolger said her husband had been convicted in London. He had sought to have his trial there adjourned on grounds of ill-health, but the judge had declined. He was sentenced in his absence. Extradition proceedings were then taken, which he contested successfully.
