Man held over 'attempted murder'

A man has been arrested by police in Belfast who are investigating the attempted murder of a member of the force.

The incident occurred on the Upper Newtownards Road on December 30th. A member of the PSNI discovered an explosive device under his car as he was about drive to work.

Police were alerted and a British army bomb-disposal squad was called out to defuse the device, which was described as a "viable".

A PSNI spokesman said the suspect (36) was arrested in west Belfast this morning and taken to the Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

Separately, police in Co Down are investigating the death of a man in Bangor.

The death of the 31-year-old at a house in the Ballyholme Road area of the town was reported to the PSNI last night.

"There are no further details at present," the PSNI said in a statement.
