Polish authorities have arrested an alleged Mossad agent wanted in connection with the killing of a Hamas leader in Dubai, the German federal prosecutor’s office said today.

Germany is now seeking Uri Brodsky’s extradition, a prosecutor’s spokesman told the Associated Press.

The spokesman said Mr Brodsky is suspected of working for a foreign spy agency in Germany and helping issue a fake German passport to a member of the Mossad hit squad that was allegedly behind the killing of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in January.

He said Mr Brodsky was arrested in early June upon his arrival in Poland because of a European arrest warrant issued by Germany.

Irish, British, French and Australian passports were also used in the killing of Mr Mabhouh. Britain and Australia have expelled Israeli diplomat over the fake passports scandal.

An inquiry into the scandal here has also recommended the expulsion of an Israeli embassy security officer.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin is expected to propose to Cabinet that it act on the recommendation, which was made by an inter-agency group including the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Justice, the Department of the Taoiseach and the Garda.
