A man is being questioned about an improvised explosive device found on a bus bound for Dublin ahead of the Queen’s visit, police said.

The suspect, aged in his sixties, is being questioned about a device found when the vehicle was searched in Maynooth, Co Kildare, on Tuesday.

He is being questioned at Longford Garda station.

A massive security operation was mounted by An Garda for the State visit of Queen Elizabeth II with roads closed and large areas cordoned off amid the heightened dissident republican threat.
