An 18-year-old will appear in court today charged with the attempted murder of a man who was beaten and stabbed outside his north Belfast home at the weekend.

He is due to appear in Belfast Magistrates Court.

The victim of the attack remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The man in his 30s was attacked in Eskdale Gardens in the Ardoyne at 3am on Saturday after answering the door to two men.

He was beaten with hurley sticks before being dragged down the driveway of the house and stabbed.

Relatives said the knife used narrowly missed his heart.

It is understood the victim had earlier been involved in a row in a pub.

A 44-year-old man appeared in court in Belfast yesterday charged with attempted murder in relation to the same attack.
