A man arrested by police in Northern Ireland after officers shot dead another man was brandishing a sawn-off shotgun, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard today.
Mr David Somers (22), of no fixed address, was seized following a major surveillance operation that ended in police opening fire on a car near Lisburn, Co Antrim.
A detective said the accused, whose arm was in a sling, made no reply when he was charged with possessing a Browning semi-automatic sawn-off shotgun in suspicious circumstances with intent to endanger life.
He was remanded in custody until May 27th.
One of the two men in the vehicle, Neil John McConville (21) was hit and died later in hospital. His funeral took place near his home at Bleary, Co Armagh this morning.
A second man was also wounded in the gunfire on Tuesday after their car smashed through a checkpoint on the Crumlin Road at Upper Ballinderry.
With Police Ombudsman Nuala O'Loan now investigating the death, the force has refused to make any comment on the shooting.
