A Dublin man who was extradited from Spain appeared at the Special Criminal Court yesterday charged with a murder 16 years ago. Mr John Patrick Moloney (51), formerly of Corbawn Wood, Shankill, Co Dublin, was arrested at Dublin Airport at 5 p.m. on warrants issued by the court in May 1983.
Mr Moloney is wanted for the murder of Mr James O'Connor at Beech Road, Bray, Co Wicklow, on February 19th, 1983, and for having a .22 semiautomatic pistol on the same date. Det Sgt Michael Heffernan, of the Crime Branch at Garda headquarters, said he was at Dublin Airport yesterday and had two warrants endorsed by a superintendent at the Bridewell in Dublin.
He said he met Mr Moloney at the airport and arrested him on foot of the warrants. Mr Moloney made no reply.
