A 32-year-old man appeared before Limerick District Court today charged in connection with the murder of a man in Limerick last week.
Gerard Manning, of Upper Gerarld Griffin Street, Limerick, is charged with the murder of 54-year-old Martin Purcell at an apartment on Wickham Street, on a date between September 29th and September 30th last contrary to Common Law.
Gda Vincent Brick gave evidence at Limeick District Court of arresting and formally charging the accused at Henry Street Garda Station last night at 11.10pm. The court heard Mr Manning replied: “I never done it. I’m sorry.”
Gda Brick said he arrested Mr Manning at Roxboro Road at 4.05pm on Sunday and brought him to Henry Street Garda station.
Solicitor Ted McCarthy asked to be assigned to represent the accused and said it was “an appropriate case”.
Insp Jerry Horan asked for Mr Manning to be remanded in custody for one week.
Judge Eamon O’Brien remanded the accused in custody until October 11th next when he will appear before the same court via video link.
Dressed in a navy hooded top, Mr Manning remained silent throughout the brief court hearing.
