A member of staff in a Dublin bar and restaurant was in a stable condition last night after he was shot during a raid on Sunday.
The 24-year-old man from eastern Europe was shot in the shoulder by one of two raiders who stole a small amount of money after holding staff and customers at gunpoint.
The robbery took place at the Lagoona Bar and Restaurant in the IFSC area of Dublin.
The staff member was taken to Beaumont Hospital after he received the gunshot wound.
Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Beaumont Hospital said he was in a stable condition.
The owner of the restaurant, TP Smith, spent some time at the hospital yesterday visiting his employee.
The raid happened shortly after 10pm on Sunday. Two men wearing balaclavas and gloves entered the bar and restaurant which is in the Docklands. One was armed with a handgun and the other a sawn-off shotgun.
They entered through the front door of the premises and there were about 20 customers on the premises at the time.
The raider with the handgun held staff and customers at gunpoint and made them lie on the floor.
While he was threatening them, the other raider forced members of staff to give them the contents of the safe which did not contain a great deal of money .
When they grabbed the cash, the two men headed for the front entrance.
As they were leaving a gunshot was discharged while they were still on the premises. The member of staff was injured.
While the raiders were making their escape they dropped a bag containing most of the money. This was found later in a laneway nearby by gardaí who believe they dropped it as they were scaling 3.65 metre (12-foot) railings making their escape. As a result, the two men got away with just a small amount of cash.
The bar and restaurant remained closed yesterday morning while Garda forensic experts examined the scene. Detectives were studying footage from a number of CCTV cameras.
