Police in Enniskillen are investigating the attack on the Swanlinbar Road in Fermanagh close to the border yesterday evening.

The PSNI said the driver was travelling from Enniskillen towards the Republic when a silver coloured Mercedes car forced him off the road.

A gunman demanded then money from the motorist, who was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

"A silver Mercedes was found burnt out a short time later at the Five Points Junction." The shooting happened close to the Fermanagh and Cavan border.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he is recovering.

He did not suffer life-threatening injuries, but was described as being distraught after the shooting.

Detectives in Enniskillen appealed for anyone who saw the Vauxhall Corsa travelling from Enniskillen after 4.30pm to come forward.

They are also want to know the movements of the silver Mercedes car and appealed for details about a second vehicle — a dark coloured 4 x 4 — was also seen in the Five Points Junction area around the time.
