A MAN was injured and a woman and child were treated for shock after a gas explosion at a Dublin city centre apartment.
The man was taken to St James’s Hospital following the explosion at a top floor apartment at Pearse House on Lower Erne Street, near Pearse Street.
Emergency services arrived at the scene following the explosion at about 4.30pm. Smoke was seen billowing from the apartment on the third storey of the local authority complex.
A number of Dublin city fire tenders, gardaí from Pearse Street station and Bord Gáis Networks officials were at the scene.
In a statement last night Bord Gáis Networks said: “The local area has been made safe and an investigation by an independent expert will commence tomorrow morning.”
Following a gas explosion, the Commission for Energy Regulation appoints an independent examiner to investigate the incident. The apartments in Pearse House were evacuated temporarily after the explosion and three were damaged.
A woman was taken to St Vincent’s hospital and a child to Temple Street hospital to be treated for shock.
The man was being treated in the burns unit of St James’s hospital.
