A man is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries he suffered during a kite-surfing incident in west Cork over the weekend.
He was taken by Coast Guard helicopter to Cork University Hospital shortly after 6pm on Saturday after he got into difficulties in high winds in Courtmacsherry Bay. It is understood he is in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, emergency services in the Old Head of Kinsale area rescued two kayakers and two windsurfers on Saturday.
Irish Water Safety has appealed to the public to stay vigilant near water. This appeal particularly targets males who accounted for 85 per cent of accidental drownings in 2010.
