A 34-YEAR-OLD man has been charged in connection with the £1 million Securicor armed robbery in south Belfast last weekend. He is expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today.

He has also been charged with unlawful imprisonment. None of the money has been recovered, but the RUC is continuing to search the grounds of Malone Golf Club, near where the robbery took place.

Divers are trawling the bed of a 20-acre lake at the club. It is understood that detectives think the money could have been hidden on the course. The RUC believes loyalist paramilitaries were involved in the robbery.

Eight other people are still being questioned about the incident. Securicor is offering a £50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen money.

An unspecified sum is also available for information leading to the recovery of cheques and cheque cards, which were also taken. The robbery was one of the biggest in Northern Ireland in years.

The family of a securicor driver were held hostage at gun-point for four hours during the raid. The money was taken from the company's base on the Loughview Road.
