Two men are set to re-appear before Cork District Court this morning in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old man whose body was found near wasteland earlier this month.
Martin O'Leary (25), of no fixed abode, was charged with the murder of Derek O'Connell at a special sitting of the court last Saturday. A second man, Philip Dorney (24), from Nutley Avenue, Mahon, Cork, was charged with allegedly threatening or intimidating a potential witness.
The court was told both men made no reply when formally charged with the offences.
Mr Dorney agreed to adjourn his bail application until today after a garda said he feared the accused would leave the jurisdiction.
Judge Con O'Leary remanded both men in custody to Cork Prison until their court appearance this morning.
Mr O'Connell's badly beaten body was found by teenage girls out walking near Blackrock Castle in Cork on September 15th.
A murder investigation was launched after a post-mortem revealed Mr O'Connell died of head injuries consistent with assault.
Mr O'Connell of Ascension Heights, Knocknaheeny, was buried last week in Cork city.
