A man was questioned at Castlebar Garda station last night in connection with the death of a man at Rossmore Estate on Sunday morning.

The 33-year-old man was arrested in Ballinrobe, 18 miles away. He was detained last night under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Liam McDonnell (35), a security man, was found badly injured in the garden of an unoccupied house at Rossmore Estate by gardaí when they answered an emergency call just after 4 a.m. A second man at the scene was also injured, and taken to hospital. Mr McDonnell later died.

Mr McDonnell was a native of Templeogue, Dublin. He had been living at Aras Cladrach in Ballinrobe. His remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, last evening, and will be conveyed by hearse to Glasnevin Cemetery this morning for burial following 8.15 a.m. Requiem Mass.
