A 22-year-old man was lucky he did not kill someone when he drove a stolen car at high speed against oncoming traffic, a judge has been told.

Peter Fleming was four times over the legal alcohol limit and had to be tasered by gardaí when he was arrested in Limerick this year.

Jailing him for 22 months at Limerick District Court yesterday, Judge Eugene O’Kelly said it was the worst case of dangerous driving to come before his court.

Fleming’s jailing comes days after the activation of a suspended sentence for theft and criminal damage matters at Portlaoise District Court last week, where he was jailed for 10 months. He is the son of the Fianna Fáil spokesman on public sector reform, Seán Fleming.
