A 76-year-old former soldier has been jailed for three years by Judge Patrick McCartan for sexually assaulting a boy over several years.

William Ferris, of Stewart Hall, and formerly of Dominick Street, Dublin, was detected as a result of Customs and Excise intercepting child pornography sent to him through the post. Gardai raided his home and found pornographic books and videos as well as photographs of his victim and other boys.

Ferris was convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of 33 counts of indecent and sexual assault of his victim, now 21, on dates from 1984 to 1992.
