A 21-year-old man who sexually assaulted a nine-year-old boy who was working with him has been jailed for a total of five years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. The incidents occurred between June and October 1996.
Judge Elizabeth Dunne said the circumstances of the sexual assault were very disturbing and had a serious effect on the victim, but she would bear in mind that it was a once-off incident. She imposed a two-year sentence for the sexual assault and a further three years, to be served consecutively, on a separate charge relating to a pub assault.
