A Waterford man who raped and sexually assaulted the daughter and son of his partner has been jailed for five years by Mr Justice Carney at the Central Criminal Court. The 53-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and five charges of indecent assault on the girl and boy between 1987 and 1993.
Garda Brenda Hyland-Byrne told Mr George Birmingham SC, prosecuting, that the man had formed a relationship with the mother of the victims after his marriage collapsed. The girl was five or six when the assaults first took place. They continued until she was 11.
