A Tallaght man who obstructed a garda when he attempted to take a motorcycle, whose user was wanted for questioning in relation to a murder, was sentenced at Rathfarnham District Court yesterday to one month's detention.

Steven Walsh (20), from Kilmartin Green, obstructed Garda Sean Tansey from taking the machine at Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, on April 16th last. The defendant was also fined £150 for use of abusive on the same occasion.

Garda Tansey said he noticed the "high-powered motorbike" outside Kilmartin Estate on April 16th and was aware that the user was wanted for questioning in relation to a murder on the north side of the city.

While checking the number of the motorcycle Walsh came over to him and became abusive. The defendant said at the time he did not know the user of the bike was wanted by gardai.

The name of the user, which cannot be published for legal reasons, was given to gardai by the defendant.
