A man who threatened to kill his former girlfriend and dump her body in a skip was jailed for three years yesterday at Belfast Crown Court. Judge Jeffrey Foote described William Williamson as "a bully and a coward who had made this lady's life a misery".

On the second day of his trial, Williamson (39), from Lad as Way, east Belfast, pleaded guilty to making a threat to kill and three charges of assault causing actual bodily harm. Earlier he had admitted common assault against her. The offences occurred between May 1995, when the 38-year-old woman left him after they had lived together for six months, and May 1996, when Williamson was taken into custody.
