A CONNEMARA man who jumped into a car and threatened to kill the six-month pregnant driver if she did not give him a lift has been jailed for five months.

Michael Noone (49), of Waterfield, Oughterard, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court yesterday to engaging in threatening words or behaviour at 12.15pm on December 23rd last year.

Insp Mick Coppinger said the woman was stopped at traffic lights in Galway city when Noone jumped into the passenger’s seat and threatened to kill her if she did not drive him to the hospital. She became distressed but escaped from the car. A passing motorist helped her and called gardaí.

Judge Mary Fahy sentenced Noone to two months for the incident with the woman and a consecutive two months for a breach of a safety order at his family home. He got another one-month sentence for the theft of bottles of wine.
