Man killed in Co Cork collision

A man was killed and two others were injured in a collision between a stolen car and a taxi in Co Cork early this morning.

A man was killed and two others were injured in a collision between a stolen car and a taxi in Co Cork early this morning.

The crash took place at 5.10am at Ballhooly, Ballyvolane in Mayfield.

The 21-year-old passenger of one of the cars, an Opel Astra, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old driver was injured and is being treated at Cork University Hospital.

His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The taxi driver, understood to be in his 40s, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

Gardaí believe the Opel Astra was stolen from Mourne Avenue in the Glen, Cork, and are appealing to anyone with information to contact Mayfield Garda station on 021-4558510.

The road was closed for a forensic examination and traffic diversions were in place until early this afternoon.
