Gardaí in Castlebar, Co Mayo, are investigating the death of a man who was killed when his tractor collided with a car.
The accident happened at 11 a.m. yesterday at Balla, Claremorris, Co Mayo.
The tractor-driver, a man in his 60s, was fatally injured when his vehicle was in collision with a car. He lived in Brize, Claremorris. The man was pronounced dead on arrival at Mayo General Hospital.The car-driver was uninjured.
Meanwhile, four people were rescued from a burning flat in Waterford city early yesterday morning after a fire broke out in a chip-pan.
The occupants of the flat at Anne Street, three men and one woman, were alerted by a fire alarm shortly before 3 a.m. Waterford gardaí and fire service personnel evacuated the rest of the building. Firefighters in breathing apparatus managed to contain the fire in the kitchen-cum-living room area of the flat.
The four occupants were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
