WASHINGTON – A man arrested during the investigation into the failed attempt to bomb New York’s Times Square has been deported to his native Pakistan, US authorities said yesterday.

Aftab Ali Khan (28) was deported after pleading guilty to forging immigration documents and transferring money without a licence, immigrations and customs enforcement said.

Khan helped transfer $4,900 from sources in Pakistan to Faisal Shahzad, the man found guilty of trying to set off a car bomb in Times Square in May 2010, law enforcement officials said.

US investigators have not charged Khan with being directly involved in the plot or of knowing what the money was to be used for. They said he entered the US in August 2009 to marry his then-fiancee and began working at a gas station in Massachusetts without a work permit. – (Reuters)
