Man must pay €1.4m for apartments

A COURT has ordered a Dublin man to complete the purchase of two apartments for more than €1

A COURT has ordered a Dublin man to complete the purchase of two apartments for more than €1.4 million in Dublin’s Spencer Dock development.

Edward McHugh, of Hollybrook Grove, Clontarf, is one of dozens of investors who paid deposits of about €20,000 on apartments at the development at North Wall Quay.

Mr McHugh signed a contract in March 2003 for the purchase of Unit 28, Baltrasna House, Spencer Dock, for €790,000, and paid a €20,000 deposit. He bought a second apartment, Unit 11, Cloncurry House, Spencer Dock, for €650,000, paying €20,000.

Barrister Paul Coughlan told Circuit Court president Mr Justice Matthew Deery in the Circuit Civil Court yesterday that Mr McHugh was in breach of both contracts and Spencer Dock Development Company Ltd was seeking orders directing he complete both.

Mr Coughlan said solicitors Eversheds O’Donnell Sweeney had written to Mr McHugh in May 2008 informing him the apartments were completed.

Judge Deery told Mr McHugh the court had no option but to make orders directing specific performance (completion) of the contracts within 21 days.
