Dublin District CourtA man accused of attempted theft at the Pro Cathedral in Dublin has abided by a ban on him setting foot in any church in Dublin, a judge was told yesterday.
Mark Pierce (31), Queen Street Bridge, Dublin, was charged earlier this month with attempted theft and possessing “a flat-headed screwdriver with adhesive dots” with intention of committing a theft, at St Mary’s Pro Cathedral on July 7th.
At Dublin District Court on July 9th, Judge Gráinne Malone noted the location of the alleged crime and said that “he does not need to be in Dublin 1 at all.”
“The conditions of bail are to stay out of Dublin 1,” she ordered at that stage, “and stay out of all churches, of all denominations, in the county and city.”
Mr Pierce had been warned that if he broke the bail terms, he would “go straight into custody”.
Yesterday, Judge Malone was told that Mr Pierce has abided by the bail terms.
She ordered him to appear again on July 31st when he is to enter pleas to the charges. The defence has sought copies of CCTV evidence from the prosecution.
