A man charged with unlawfully importing sheep to Ireland, is due back in court this morning.

Mr John Walsh from Co Offaly, but living in Carlisle, was charged on four counts of unlawful importation of sheep into the State contrary to European Union regulations, after being arrested last week.

He is also facing nine charges of submitting incorrect tax returns and one charge of not submitting a tax return.

Last Thursday Judge David Anderson refused bail on the grounds Mr Walsh left the State after he committed the alleged smuggling offences and had no ties in the State.
