A man appeared at Enniscorthy District Court on a trespass charge yesterday and was directed by Judge Donnacha Ó Buachalla not to go near any schools in Wexford town.
Mr Stuart Beckett (26), Corish Park, Wexford was brought before the court in custody and was remanded on bail to Wexford District Court on Monday next under strict conditions.
He is charged with being in the vicinity of Kennedy Park primary school at Whitemill Road, Wexford, between January 19th and January 20th for the purpose of trespassing thereon, in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that such presence was with intent to commit an offence or to unlawfully interfere with any property situate thereon.
Sgt Michael Walsh of Wexford Garda Station told the court that the charge related to a school grounds and said the school was attended by 470 children ranging in age from 5 to 12 years.
He asked that the following strict bail conditions be applied: that the defendant sign on at Wexford Garda Station at 3 p.m. daily; that he does not congregate outside or near any of the schools in Wexford town; that if he has business in any school, he should be accompanied by a responsible adult, and that if he has business elsewhere in Wexford, commercial or otherwise, he should take a route that does not involve passing by any of the schools.
Judge Ó Buachalla asked the accused if he was listening to these conditions and he replied "yes, your honour".
He informed the Judge that he was not working and when asked if he wished to avail of free legal aid, he replied "yes, but not at the moment".
Earlier, Det Garda Dan O'Sullivan gave evidence of having arrested and charged the accused in Wexford the day before.
He made no reply to the charge.
Judge Ó Buachalla remanded the defendant on bail, in his own bond, under the conditions outlined, to Wexford District Court on Monday next.
