THE FRIEND of a man who died having taken heroin panicked on finding the body and stuffed it into the boot of a car before driving to Dublin and abandoning it, an inquest heard yesterday.

Dublin Coroner’s Court heard that Czech national Marek Janrych misled gardaí as they searched for his friend Martin Sejna (30), of St Finian’s Terrace in Navan, Co Meath, and admitted the truth only after the body was discovered.

The deceased was found dead in the boot of his car at Island Street in south inner city Dublin on April 27th, 2009.

He died as a result of pneumonia developed in the hours after he took heroin at Mr Janrych’s caravan at Newhall, near Naas, two nights previously.

Mr Janrych told the court that he had been drinking in his caravan with Mr Sejna but that he had not seen him take heroin. He had seen the deceased fall asleep and vomit.

He woke up at 4am to find Mr Sejna dead. He attempted CPR then he panicked and put his friend into the boot of the car. He did not know what to do so he drove to Dublin on Sunday morning and parked the car before taking the bus back to Naas. He apologised to the court for his actions.

Detective Garda Martin Long said Janrych faced charges in relation to providing the Garda with false information and the Misuse of Drugs Act in November last year and received a suspended sentence.

Coroner Dr Brian Farrell returned an open verdict.
