Man pleads guilty to manslaughter

A young Dublin man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Central Criminal Court yesterday

A young Dublin man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Central Criminal Court yesterday. Charles Moloney (22), from Fairview Strand, had previously pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr James Hurley (48), of Addison Road, Fairview, on January 29th, 1995, at Fairview Avenue.

However, yesterday afternoon, Mr Eamonn Leahy SC, for Moloney, asked for his client to be rearraigned following discussions with prosecuting counsel, Mr Michael Durack SC.

When the charge was put to him again, Moloney pleaded "not guilty to murder but guilty of manslaughter". Mr Durack said the plea was acceptable to the State.

Mr Justice Morris agreed to a defence request for an adjournment prior to sentencing to allow time for preparation of probation reports.
