Gardaí investigating the murder of a young man in the northside of Cork city this morning are questioning a man in his thirties.
Superintendent Con Cadogan of Gurranebraher Garda station said the man (31) was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at 9.25am and his detention was extended at 3.15pm. He can be held for 24-hours.
The dead man was this evening named as Lee McCarthy (25), originally from London but living with his family in Cork.
Gardaí discovered the body at a house on St Rita's Avenue in Gurranabraher at around 6.40am after receiving a call from a householder in the area. The body was found in a shed at the back of the property.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster conducted a post mortem at Cork University Hospital earlier today, the results of which have not yet been released. Initial reports suggested the dead man sustained at least one stab wound.
